In the middle ages, an advent carol was written to celebrate Adam
and Eve's role in making Mary, the mother of Jesus, queen.
Unlike most advent/Christmas carols, Adam lay ybounden begins
with Adam, Eve, and the apple. This unusual starting point
inspired us to summarize the Christian message from this
beginning.
Since we were going to write new words, we thought we might as well
incorporate some additional Christian theology. For instance, we
changed the focus from Mary to Jesus. And we reinforced the idea
of the human need for redemption.
It's true, our lyrics don't have the catchy Middle English
flare, like "Ne hadde the apple taken been, ... Ne hadde nevere
Oure Lady ybeen hevenè Queen". But we think they are
easier for the modern listener to understand.
The limits of our musical abilities prevented us from reproducing
the tranquilizing feel of the classical tune for a chorus and
organ. Instead, we spread some simple chords over a spirited
beat that beckons your involvement.
As for this recording of our song, what would seem more appropriate
than a festive restaurant/club atmosphere with laughter and joyous
children.
Enjoy! And remember, the joyous gift of Christmas is God's
gift to you!

Christmas is here, rejoice!
A Savior to us is born
He comes as a child, to save you and me
That's Jesus, the Son of God
One simple rule for Adam and Eve
God designed to protect them
A snake, a slip, (oops) they're eatin'!
Their eviction was imminent
Christmas is here, rejoice!
A Savior to us is born
He comes as a child, to save you and me
That's Jesus, the Son of God
Prophecies told of a Savior to come
God called a girl named Mary
Her 'yes' to God opened a bridge
God and people can reconnect
Christmas is here, rejoice!
A Savior to us is born
He comes as a child, to save you and me
That's Jesus, the Son of God
We eat the fruit we cannot digest
God devised a clever plan
His Son, His pain, shedding His blood,
to repair our broken lives
Christmas is here, rejoice!
A Savior to us is born
He comes as a child, to save you and me
That's Jesus, the Son of God
Christmas is here, rejoice!
A Savior to us is born
He comes as a child, to save you and me
That's Jesus, the Son of God
Yeah!
